Yeah, I can understand that. I can definatley identify with patrotism when England play football, but I'm not sure I'd blindly follow my nation or my government in the same way I'd blindly follow a sports team - after all, what nations and goverments do matter.
Does that make sense?

Yeah, look at it this way:
It's like scientific scepticism. You don't invest in something, intellectually, until you know it's beyond any chance of being disproven. So I can have total faith in evolution through natural selction beause of all the proof and what not, but something like string theory has to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Similarly, if I go around saying how great the UK is and how we're the best country, if and when our government does something monumentally stupid (example: invading a country for no reason...) I look pretty dumb for being so gung ho about patriotism.
Blind faith in anything is a bad idea.
