Re: The January Boredom Thread thought we'd be living in space
What do you guys think?......
I have Verizon DSL and the router keeps dumping my connection (seen in Optimism Boy thread), so I want FIOS or Comcast cable internet. I would like to spend as little as possible, which goes against both company's sales design.
Anyway
Comcast
1 year contract
$20 up front install cost
$42.99 for up to 12Mb/s
Basic cable, which is basically ABC, NBC, Fox, and QVC. Over the air stations. I don't know cost after 1st year. $10 more maybe. I'd have to keep the Basic cable because their internet alone is $60/m.
$3/month modem fee or get my own
no disruption to physical lines of house, sort of a big deal, but not really.
Verizon FIOS
1 year contract
No install fee
No equipment fee
No service fee
$44.99 for up to 10Mb/s
It is easy to upgrade to 20Mb/s just by asking and they charge $10 more a month, which is sort of enticing too.
They also have to undo the copper from the pole to the house, and I'll want to sell this place in the next few years. No idea if impacts a buyer's mentality.
So up front Comcast is a better deal by faster speeds and a better cost. However, after a year, I think the price will go up. I think I get the no fees through Verizon because they want me off of DSL, if I took a year with Comcast then over to Verizon, I'd probably pay some of those above fees.
Please anyone weigh in on this, from a service and cost point of view.
PS. in the time it took for me to make this post, I've lost internet connection twice.
