Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
The freakin Tescos in town shut for a few hours because of network problems and as a result, we start pulling in all their business. That's great when you look at the bottom line, but people were panicking like we were the last shop open, with only limited supplies and a massive hurricane was coming.
People do that at home too, I never understood it. Is there a reason to horde when a store closes for a day?

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
Movie round up thoughts....
Has anyone seen the Wolverine movie? Is it worth a matinee or something?
I honestly can't really get behind the new Terminator, more so because of Christian Bale than anything. I just don't buy him as John Connor. Nick Stahl worked fine. I even thought T3 was OK enough.
I can't imagine GI Joe being particularly good. Transformers could go either way.
Is there anything coming out you're looking forward to or can't believe is being made?

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
I'm not a Star Trek nerd, but I'm looking forward to the movie. Gonna see it sometime this week probably.
I was pumped about Watchmen but I still haven't seen it. After reading about the changes, I got kinda down on it, so I'll just rent it when it comes out. Same with Wolverine... Just gonna rent it when it comes out.
The only reason I'd see either Transformers movie is because of Meagan Fox, but even that's not enough to see that turd.
I'm picky!

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
I'm watching Star Trek tomorrow. I am a Star Trek nerd, but not really for the Original Series, so I can't see myself bitching about it too much. We'll see though.
Wolverine is supposed to be shite. I'm not going to see that.
Transformers I can take or leave, but I'll probably watch it anyway.

Wolverine is cool only because Sabertooth is an awesome bad guy, and Gambit is exactly how i wanted Shamrock to be. Not a big Star Trek fan, Getting a copy on friday from a friend. Transformers I'm looking forward to the most, mostly to see Megan Fox

If you are a true to the bone Trekker, that is no reason NOT to complain about the movie, some of the fan reviews I was unfortunate enough to read truly defined why I like Star Trek, but HATE real Trekkies!
"It's not scientificly correct! A supernoca doesn't work that way!"
"Realy, Trek-skull? neither is the fact that 99% of all aliens are strictly humanoid!"

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
In fairness, there's no way to know what a real alien might look like (although they're extremely unlikely to resemble a human in any respect), but a supernova is a supernova and works a certain way. That's not so much a Trekkie complaint as it is a "someone who knows something about astrophysics" complaint.

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
Seen Star Trek, and again tonight. Good film, I had 3 problems with it, the one I can mention without killing anything was that I just didn't like the music.
And I'm with Dante - real Trekkies piss me off. The force is illogical my ass.
In the future I'm gonna have to see T56 or whichever it is, don't really care to to be honest. Transformers I'll have to see but when I finally saw the first one, I liked it, so I can see this one. Wolverine I won't have to, and it looks like balls, so thank God.

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
Yeah, because no one here is a nerdy fanboy of anything... And Star Trek sucked. Not because it didn't follow established continuity, but because it did. Figure that one out.

Answer: Thommy is picky!
Let me ask you this: If all I'm looking to get out of it is an action movie in space, is it still going to suck?

Re: The May Boredom Thread is Nostalgic
Yeah, because about half of the "plot" is bending over backwards for Star Trek nerds.
If you don't give a fuck about Star Trek, you'll probably like it.
If you really give a fuck about Star Trek and all you're interested in is whether it studiously avoids violating canon, you'll love it.
If you're somewhere in between, like me, and all you wanted was a good story with familiar characters and wouldn't have minded in the slightest if it had treated the Star Trek mythos with broad strokes and played fast and loose with some aspects of continuity, you'll be weirdly disappointed because, like, half the movie is blatant pandering. There's really no plot or dramatic tension, because all the running time is taken up with "and this is how it fits in with the Star Trek you all know and love! Appreciate the effort we made for you geeks!"
Also, it would have been nice if they'd kept in some of the utopian themes...that's kind of what Star Trek is, you know?
