I posted this at 411, VERY important change in my life
This is very important and IS not a joke.
Basically I have a drink problem and I am becoming like my alcoholic late dad.
Although I usually only binge drink once a week, I don't know when to stop and get too shitfaced.
last night, this very action has possibly cost my relationship with my GF.
WE went to Coventry for her best friends birthday, where I was meeting some of her friends. we were going out for a night out etc.
now I know i have a problem when i needed a drink just to give me confidense to talk a little as I can be quiet when meeting new people.
half a bottle of vodka later and we went to a party, along the way i drank half a bottle of ginger wine with helen (eileens best friend) plus had a couple of beers at the party.
now whether that was a lot or not, I was shit faced, and by the time I got to the club I was out ofn it.
in the club eileen had to look after me and stop drinking because I had no idea of what i was doing.
I got upset becasue I got paranoid and thought she was deffing me out, and in total frustration I punched a wall in anger several times.
I embarrased myself, her friends and importantly I embarrased soem one I love dearly and could very well have lost her.
because I don't know when to stop.
I spoke to my mum and she said it was exaclty like my dad when he was younger, before he got dependent on teh alcohol.
he also made an arsehole of himself like I have done.
and its got to stop.
these friends of eileen now think I'm a pisshead who get wankered.
for too long I've thought it was cool and a laugh to get drunk but its costing peple close to me.
I found out my best mate had a problem with me for exaclty this, getting shitfaced on holiday and making a twat of myself.
Its time for me to grow out of it, or I'll end up hurting my mum again and will lose eileen (IF she forgives me) if I do it again.
so I may get some abuse of mates, but they won't be mates if they have a problem with me not drinking.
my mum did say I can have the odd drink at home but it isn;t a good idea for me to drink out, because I don't know when to stop when in a club.
I'm not looking for sympathy, just telling the good people at ECF who I get along with.

I think that despite what Nem tries to tell you, this is a good idea. More important than anything else is that YOU realize something is not working and YOU are choosing to deal with it.

A part of me really thinks Nem isn't the right cat to be talkin' to alchoholism about for one.
For two, I know a lot on the subject. And I'll help you out man. IM me, e-mail me, PM me, whatever, just talk to me man. I can help. I'm serious as a gunshot Morg, I'll help you out.

My sentiments exactly.
And if you want a non-drinkers perspective Morg, I'm on MSN a lot. Heh.

Morg. The way I see it, this is a good thing for you. Yeah, I do have the occasional drink, but if beer were banned tomorrow, it wouldnt kill me. Sounds like you are a lot like my little brother is. IMO, if you go a week without drinking, and you feel the urge to go get hammered, it is time to stop.
So good luck bro, you know im here to lend an ear, or some of my crappy advice or whatever you need.

It's an old saying, everthing in moderation, but it's very true.
And it's also true that if you can't drink in moderation then you probably shouldn't.
It'll be hard mate, very hard. I don't actually think I could give up drinking completely, but then again I've always been lucky enough that I know when to draw the line. Even when I've drunk a lot I know when to stop and usually end up being the respensible one looking after the others.
Good luck with whatever you try to do, and as everyone else has said, you know where we are if you need to talk.

morg. I think your wording of what you need to do shows you are on the right track..
Saying you need to "grow out of it" can go a long way mate.. good luck..
and you can even live vicariously through me as for drinking stories.. if you like peeing on things...

Hey, Morg...you know I understand fully. If you get on MSN soon, be sure to hit me up, maybe we can both offer each other ideas to fix our shared problem.
Until then, stay strong, mate. And I'll talk to you soon.

Actually, the old saying is "everything in moderation, except Wild Turkey." Or maybe that was just Evel Kneval...
The way I see it, it works a lot like that one Streets song, The Irony of It All.
You know, the one that basically says don't drink as a release, smoke pot?
Well, good luck man, and good job on realizing and acting on a problem.

I think it takes a lot of guts to be able to admit something like that, Johnny. I think that's half the battle right there, realizing you have a problem.
Everything I read about you seems to point to a strength in your character. I know you can win this fight.
My best wishes, man.

if it helps morg.. I can scrounge up some kind of character named "Al Koe Hallism" and we can have a match..
and we'll see how you handle this topic..
IN THE RING!!!!
uhm. hope people don't consider that too crude and off topic.. but a certain amount of brevity is required everywhere..

I'm happy for you Morg. I'm glad you made this decision before it was too late. I've seen too many people fall to this.

Morg, you've got my full support if you need any little thing. I've seen first hand what alcohol can do to a relationship. It actually ruin ed a year of my life. Luckily you don't have children to deal with like my Mom did.
Eileen will come back to you if can prove your love.
