Behind the Iron Curtain: My Trip to Seattle
Hey peoples.
I'm back from my Vacation to Seattle with my folks. First things First, Seattle is
NOT as rainy as you might thing. In fact, every day I was there was a sunny day. Seriously.
Next, on to the actual trip, in no particular order: I went to this Asian art Museum. I noticed that Hindu Artists like big, round boobs on their women for some reason. Why? I don't know. *looks at his copy of Juggs*
...AHHH! *quickly puts down pornographic smut*
Can't I have some some privacy? Anyway, there was some nice art in that museum. Especially from the Japanese artists, who seamed to embrace Impressionism while the western world was busy with Realism.
Next, I went to the Experience Music Museum, which allowed its visitors to play musical instruments or "learn" how to play them...it also showcased the Jimi Hendrix Museum. Also shown were some Nirvana artifacts, like an old performance tape; and a sculpture made out of donated musical instruments glued to a conical cylinder.
Next, We went to the space needle to see Seattle in all its glory. We also ate at the restaurant underneath, which was a rotating restaurant à la the Rotating Restaurant on the Simpsons.
I also went to a video arcade. Man, is it different than when it was used to. You actually have to perform feats of physical activity, and commence in simulations of the real thing. Not my thing, but entertaining to say the least.
Notes about Seattle:
-I haven't noticed many Starbucks, but there are lots of Coffee Shoppes, especially Internet Cafés. There is also a shitload of Subway restaurants in Seattle...enough to make me sick of Subway.
-The Homeless aren't as filthy as NYC's homeless. They also don't sleep on any paraphernalia. They just seem to "hang around." That's the best I can describe it. Must be a west coast thing. :p
After Seattle, we headed down to Portland to see a Wedding. This necessitates a backstory, so I shall provide, with names changed to protect the innocent:
My Mother was a long-time friend with somebody named Amanda Jaffe. She married Jay Gilbert. They had three kids: One, the oldest, is Eliza, who is now 29 years old. The second oldest one is Samantha, who is around my sister's age (24). The youngest is Matthew, who is around my age. The person being wed was Samantha.
Eliza now lives in New York and works as a reporter for Barron's magazine. Matthew is now in Seattle Community College. The last I heard from Matthew was last year, when he came to my house for a short while. He had grown a goatee. The last I heard from Samantha was when I was four, and my last memory of her was when the Gilberts came to New York City and we all visited the Statue of Liberty. I haven't seen Samantha since. So, when my family and I went to the place where the pre-wedding party was to be held, we were told to come back tomorrow, for we were 24 hours early. :p. 24 hours later, the party was started. I recognized Matthew, who had grown a moptop and shaven his goatee. I recognized Eliza, since she actually lives in the same city. I figured it would be tough to recognize Samantha, given how long I had seen her. Just a few moments later, a fairly muscular girl with big breasts and a stark tan (in other words, someone with a figure resembling a WWE diva) yet with the face of a Gilbert appeared. I asked her who she was:
"You don't recognize me, Samuel? I'm Samantha!"
I was shocked. I had no idea that there was a hot Gilbert in the family, especially one as nice as Samantha. Eliza looked rather plain, and Matthew, though scoring points in the looks department, wasn't exactly a chick-magnet type. I wondered who the fiancé was: It turned out to be this large guy with a bodybuilder's frame. Figures, I thought. It would take a bodybuilder to be with somebody like Samantha.
Next Day: The Wedding. Ceremony was Ultra-Quick, and though I didn't like the food, I liked the wedding. Seeing Samantha was also cool, and I wished the couple good luck in their marriage. The two days after were pretty slow, going to the Chinese Garden of Portland and staying at the Gilbert's house for a while. The last day was spent with an hour playing some N64 games on the Hotel TV, and after that, we went back to NYC, and here I am writing this.
Thrilling, eh?
